- As one of India's 14 biodiversity hotspots, Assam boasts uniquely diverse agro-climatic conditions that contribute to its rich agricultural tradition. It is the largest economy in the North East region, heavily reliant on agricultural output. The agriculture and allied sectors in Assam encompass crops, livestock, forestry and logging and fishing and aquaculture.
- Agriculture forms the backbone of Assam's economy, with over 75% of the population engaged in farming or agricultural labour. The state aims to enhance its agricultural and allied sector performance through targeted growth in horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry and other plantation or cash crops.
